First Congregational Church E-Newsletter

Sunday's Service: January 1

In worship this Sunday we pause at the start of a new year to think about the coming months . . . months of great decisions for our state and nation.  We'll also be invited to think about what decisions might be in store for us personally -- how those decisions will be made, and how they will effect us.  "Guest" vocalist Laurel Sanders, home from California, will be singing a solo.  Worship Ministry Group members Jack Frohn and Corinne Saidla will be our worship leaders.  There will be childcare for infants and toddlers, but no Church School or Ready for Worship activities.

In Our Prayers

Ted Wojahn, having a knee replaced this Friday

Remember too to pray for several in the congregation who continue sometimes difficult treatment for cancer.

Also, for all those who in this Holiday Season are especially missing loved ones who have recently died.

For Ralph and Carol traveling today to Detroit where on New Year's Eve they will preside at the marriage of a daughter of Ralph's college roommate!

Life Long Learning

New Year's Day

There will be no presentation this Sunday however ...

The new program guides for Sunday Morning Lifelong Learning (Adult Ed) sessions are now available. This guide covers upcoming events from January through May, which is the end of our programming  year. They are available in the Narthex near the bell tower entrance as well as in the church office. If you cannot find one please let the church office know and Cynthia can either help you locate one or get more printed up so you can have one. They are also available online at the church’s web site (www.fccoshkosh.org). Thank you.

TUESDAY NIGHT

SPIRITUALITY

DISCUSSIONS

Are there dangerous religious doctrines and what are some of them? Does Christianity belong at the political bargaining table? Who, if anybody, did Jesus exclude from the church? Should Christians worship Jesus? What should we believe about Jesus? What did Jesus believe about his heavenly father? Have you ever wondered about these things as you have traveled on our faith's journey? If so, you're not alone. And while we may never have the answers, it's interesting to hear other people's thoughts on such important faith-based  questions. These are the very kinds of topics we discuss each week during our Tuesday Night Spirituality Discussion Group get-togethers. The group isn't real large so you don't have to worry about getting lost amongst a bunch of people, but most everyone who comes is a fellow FCC member so you'll be among friends. Come check it out. If you just want to be a silent observer, that's perfectly fine. Or you can jump in with both feet and share to your heart's content. Either way, we promise the 90 minutes you share with us will be uplifting, enlightening and will certainly make you think. Please consider joining us some Tuesday starting at 7 pm right here at the church. We hope to see you soon!
