Paddling Sports Fellowship
Join us on Saturday, May 31st!
Susy and John Vette have invited us to launch at their home to paddle the waters ofLake Winnebago. We will gather at 9:30 a.m. at the Vette's home, launch our boats and have a leisurely paddle to Wendts on the Lake for lunch. Between the Vette's home and Wendts, there is nice shoreline and marshy areas to be discovered. The paddle from Vette's home to Wendts will probably take about 1-11/2 hrs. For those that were unable to join us on our last excursion, it was great fun despite the wind. We saw cranes and eagles at Germania Marsh as well as a few ticks while exploring the land. Paddling together is a wonderful way to celebrate the many wonderful places and things that God has provided to us, while in the company of friends from FCC.
Join us! Whether you canoe or kayak, we would love to have you no matter what your abilities are, all are welcome! If you only want to meet us for lunch at Wendts about noon, that's fine also.
If the weather/wind seems questionable to you, call Ginnie Sherer or Dick
Oelschlager at 589-2219 anytime after 7:00 a.m. on the 31st.
Directions to Vettes' Home
Via Highway 45/Fond du Lac Road from Oshkosh:
Go south about six miles south on Hwy. 45 from Oshkosh past Ardy and Ed's Drive-in passing crossroads of Waukau Ave., Ripple Road, Country Club Road, Fisk Road/Hy 175, and Koelpin Road (all with access on your right.) Landmarks you will pass are the Oshkosh Country Club, BP Gas station and carwash, Lakeside School, the Seaplane Base. When you get to Fahrnwald Road where there is a sign to the Jesuit Retreat sign, turn left onto Fahrnwald. Go 1/2 mile. Fahrnwald Road will intersect with Lake Road and the entrance to the Jesuit Retreat. Turn right onto Lake Road. Go about 1/4 mile to Vette's driveway, marked by a large black mailbox and the number "5050". Turn left into the driveway (which is fairly long). This will be our gathering point and first "pit stop." You can offload your kayak here and carry it downhill to the water, or drive down to the boat ramp and unload there (Vettes recommendation since it's closer!) Launch time will probably be about 10 a.m. If you're running late and want to go straight to the boat ramp, GO PAST the black mailbox at the foot of our driveway to the next entrance, marked by large stone gate posts. Turn left and follow this driveway all the way to the water's edge. The boat ramp is right at the end of this driveway. Vehicle parking is to the left behind the boathouse.
