Job Title: Lay Ministry Coordinator
Job Summary: Recognizing that God calls people to various forms of ministry, this position helps to identify, encourage and strengthen the lay ministry activities of all members of the congregation. This person assists members and friends of the congregation to discover and use their gifts and talents in the life of the Church.
Accountability: Direct supervision is provided by the co-pastors.
Duties & Responsibilities: · Support the pastoral and program staff by working to develop a broad base of congregational participation in the life of the church. § Intentionally help members and friends to see themselves as part of the ministry of the church § Identify a potential need for additional Ministry Groups, i.e. a Caring Ministry Group who would assist with flower delivery, meals for families with a sick spouse or partner, visits to the homebound, assisting members and friends in their time of need, relationship deepening and spiritual connections § Provide personal follow-up, on a regular basis, to ensure the successful integration of new members into the life of the church
· Manage the Spiritual Gifts Inventory Program § Maintain the Spiritual Gifts Inventory program § Administer the Spiritual Gifts Inventory discovery process for congregation § Administer the Spiritual Gifts Inventory discovery process as part of new member classes § Educate, through a variety of means, all members and friends about opportunities for participation in the lay ministry of the church § Provide data base information to ministry areas § Assist with recruitment, particularly in the educational ministries of the church · Shepherd the Ministry Group Facilitators § Create and maintain job descriptions and statements of purpose for each Ministry Group. § Assist new facilitators' leadership during transition and provide help in leading effective meetings
· Provide staff support for some Ministry Groups § Nurture/Caring Ministry Group § Fellowship Ministry Group · Organize and work with the Moderator-Elect in the annual nomination process to identify new and continuing members for groups and committees § Provide data base information for the nomination process § Be involved in the direct recruitment of members for the various ministries of the church
Qualifications:
§ Excellent interpersonal skills § Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written § Able to maintain a flexible schedule § Above average skills working with database, word processing, internet and e-mail software § Willingness to grow through professional development opportunities § Ability to express own beliefs and share their personal faith story § Relate to persons with differing theologies § Encourage others to grow in ministry and commitment § Belief that all people are given gifts for ministry § An awareness of the many ways people minister § Commitment to recognize all kinds of ministry
Hours: An average of 15 to 20 hours per week
